Service/Philanthropic Projects

Northern Orange County Council Chapters participate in the four OCCC Philanthropic Projects and the two Service Projects

Our members raise more than $3 million for local charities and donate over 200,000 volunteer hours in an average year. 

At the 70th annual California State Convention held May 13-15 2010, local chapters donated $176,661 to the states four philanthropic projects.

Cystic Fibrosis: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a defective gene that causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.

Stanford Kidney Research: Researchers at Stanford University Medical Center have discovered a way to transplant kidneys without having the patient remain on lifelong course of immune-suppressing drugs in order to prevent rejection. 

 Lupus Foundation: Lupus is an acute & chronic, inflammatory disease that causes the immune system to become hyperactive & attach the body's own healthy tissue & organs. 90% of  those diagnosed with lupus are women.

United Scleroderma Foundation:  Scleroderma is classified as a disease of the vascular and immune systems, and a severe connective tissue disorder. It results in fibrosis (hardening) of the skin and multiple organs. Approximately 4 times more women than men develop the disease. 

OCCC Community Service: Funds for Emergency Relief. All members in good standing in OCCC are eligible.

OCCC Scholarship Fund:  A maximum of four Scholarships are given annually to High School Seniors, College Students and Active Members of Beta Sigma Phi's. 

Each chapter determines its own service projects. Current Chapter Projects:

The Beta Sigma Phi International Endowment Fund, established in 1948, came from the realization that in the combined strength of Beta Sigma Phi chapters lay the means of great good beyond that already being accomplished in the immediate communities. The Endowment Fund Grants have amounted to over four million dollars.
